The first day of spring is just around the corner. With the change in season come a few preventative maintenance tasks that will help you prep your house for the change in weather. If you’re working from home, you might find a little extra time on your hands to perform these tasks. If you don’t have that time, Butler Contracting<\/a> is happy to help you with them!<\/p>\n

\u2022 Replace the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors<\/strong> \u2013 Make sure you don\u2019t get a rude awakening in the middle of the night when the batteries decide to tell you they are dead.
\n\u2022 Prepare your air conditioner<\/strong> \u2013 Remove dust and debris from your air conditioner unit that accumulated over the winter. Hose off the AC condenser (the big metal box) outside your house. This will melt away the buildup from winter storms and cold. Be careful if you pressure wash because you could damage the interior components.
\n\u2022 Change your air filters<\/strong> \u2013 You should change your home\u2019s air filters monthly, but if you forgot during the winter, be sure to do so now. You\u2019ll want a new filter to circulate clean air as the season changes and allergens pick up in the environment.
\n\u2022 Bring your lawn back to life<\/strong> \u2013 Pick up branches, debris, and rocks that have made it into your yard. Sprinkle weed and feed and prune back your bushes.
\n\u2022 Prepare your deck for spring picnics<\/strong> \u2013 Use a flathead screwdriver to remove leaves and debris from in between boards on your deck. Pressure wash your deck to revive faded and stained boards. Check for loose boards and reset loose nails or screws.
\n\u2022 Open the windows<\/strong> \u2013 Not only will this give you a chance to wipe down the interior window sills, but it will also naturally aerate your home and improve air quality. The spring breeze will remove the stuffy smell and feeling of winter.
\n\u2022 Test your sprinklers<\/strong> \u2013 Turn your sprinklers on to ensure things are working properly. Adjust them to make sure they spray on your yard and not your driveway or sidewalks. Reattach your hoses and run water through them to remove any winter buildup.<\/p>\n
